One of the most common questions from our potential customers is: Are FIBCs waterproof? Today, we will address this question.

There is a lot of misinformation on the Internet regarding the waterproof capabilities of FIBCs. Today, we are here to clarify the fact that FIBCs are not waterproof. FIBCs are made from woven polypropylene fabric. It is inherently not waterproof.

Some FIBCs are coated with polyethylene. The coating layer can be on the outside or on both sides. This coating layer does not guarantee waterproofing for flexible intermediate bulk containers. It would be a misconception to think that FIBCs are inherently waterproof. The polyethylene coating layer can function as a good moisture barrier and can also prevent a lot of leakage from fine materials; once again, the coating layer does not ensure waterproofing for flexible intermediate bulk containers. As for whether the flexible bags are waterproof or not, the answer is no.
